is constantly clenching your jaw hard enough to give yourself a mandibular headache.

You know, I once tried to sleep with my finger in my mouth so that I could breathe open-mouthed instead of suffocating through blocked sinuses.

I woke up about 20 minutes later in horrendous pain and lovely bruising.

Time to buy a mouth splint?

They make some kind of rubbery-plastic form you can insert in your mouth to help with that sort of thing. Maybe that's already what you meant by "mouth splint."

Years ago I was having a tense time at work (where I worked then) and one morning I woke up and couldn't open my mouth at all without horrible pain. I had to live on soup and milkshakes for the next week.

Which is to say, I sympathize.

I was reading about the device of which you speak. I was developed by a dentist for relieving headaches and supposedly works extremely well. UNfortunately, you have to get fitted for one by a dentist and I have no dental insurance. Ah well.
