Okay, it's not funny anymore. I'm talking about people saying the exact same freaking thing whenever the name "EverQuest" gets mentioned.
I'm not a fucking addict, okay? Trust me, if I was an addict, I'd never go out, I'd never sit down to dinner with my family, I'd never make social plans, and I'd sure as shiite never bother posting on LJ. The fact is, I DO go out, I DO spend lots of time with my family, I do get the housework and the finances done and I DO socialize! (all of which is more than I can say for SOME people who just love to toss that very serious accusation around lightly)
I'm not a fucking addict, get it? Neither are my roommates or my guildmates or anyone else I am fairly well acquainted with who play. I am not embarrassed to say that I'd rather stay home and play sometimes than go out and spend money I don't have. Then again, I often stay home and watch a rented movie instead. Sometimes I stay home because people are coming over to see me and my beloved. Sometimes I read a book. Sometimes I talk on the telephone. Or play music, or clean house, or work on a project, or read to the kids etc. Then again, sometimes we DO go out. Sometimes we spend all day out doing something fun for the whole family. In fact, we have been doing that every Saturday. We've gone on trips, been tubing down the 'hootch, gone to 6 flags and the zoo, and had picnics too.
Yeah, we do all those things IN ADDITION to playing on-line games occasionally. If I played half as much as people think I did, my character would be a LOT better and a LOT higher level. Trust me, I have met people in-game who do nothing but play. I know what they are like and it is a sad thing. That is not ME or my friends.
Engrave this into your skulls people: ENJOYING something does not make you an ADDICT.
I don't call you an alcoholic every time you mention liquor, I don't call you a raver if you mention going dancing, and I certainly won't call you a bookworm if you wanna tell me about your favorite tome.
QUIT CALLING US ADDICTS! IT'S NOT FUNNY

Date: 2004-08-05 09:41 am (UTC)I know that I have never called ya'll addicts; I'll refer to it as crack, but last I checked I was playing a different brand of crack. :D
I've lived with an Evercrack addict. It was bad. It was also on DU. The guy COULD NOT quit. Lost his gf, lost his job, lost his car, and STILL COULD NOT QUIT.
You're not him. Never will be.
I may be addicted to RPG collecting and Jonathan may be a computer addict, but there is no Evercrack addiction in our house.
