  1. Name your ten favorite fictional characters of all time and what book, movie, or tv show they came from.
  2. (Interestingly, many are either scoundrals or detectives. Think I'll give you 5 from books, 5 from movies/TV...)
    1. Daryl Zero from the movie Zero Effect (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120906/combined)
    2. Léon / The Cleaner from The Professional (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0110413/combined) and La Femme Nikita (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0100263/combined) (same actor, and arguably the same character...)
    3. Hudson Hawk (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0102070/combined) (title character)
    4. Chauncey Gardner in Being There (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0078841/combined)
    5. Dr. Harry Wolper (Peter O'Toole) in Creator (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088960/combined)
    6. Slippery Jim DeGritz AKA The Stainless Steel Rat
    7. Repairman Jack from F. Paul Wilson's Adversary Cycle and Repairman Jack novels
    8. Professor Moriarity from the Sherlock Holmes canon
    9. Hagbard Celine from the Illuminatus! Trilogy
    10. Ford Prefect from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  3. Name five fictional characters that you would like to have an affair with and/or marry, plus the source. You may disregard any pre-existing attachments for these characters.
  4. (Having a hard time thinking of literary females I've fallen for. Much easier with movies/TV...)
    1. Patricia Graynamore from Joe Versus the Volcano (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0099892/combined) (Meg Ryan is just adorable in that role)
    2. Kate Libby (Angelina Jolie) in Hackers (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0113243/combined)
    3. Sydney Bristow from "Alias"
    4. Many of the female regular characters in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" universe. Each of them have attractive attributes, but it would be hard to choose just one over the others.
    5. Lelaina Pierce (Winonna Ryder) in Reality Bites (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0110950/combined)
  5. Name five books that you would like to live in. (Series may count as a single book.)

    1. Some interpretation of Victorian London, circa 1888. Maybe Mark Frost's List of 7 or Roger Zelazny's Night in Lonesome October, or perhaps something more "steam-punk".
    2. Terry Prachett's Discworld
    3. Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere
    4. Either Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age or Snow Crash
    5. 18th century Italy of the Historical Illuminatus! Chronicals
  6. What classic/critically acclaimed work(s) of literature do you fully appreciate the artistic merits of but hate nonetheless?

    1. Anything by William Faulkner.

  7. Name five books that you would recommend I read. Thank you!
  8. (You're welcome!)
    1. Fool on the Hill or Sewer, Gas, Electric: The Public Works Trilogy by Matt Ruff
    2. Glimpses or Slam! by Lewis Shiner
    3. The Keep by F. Paul Wilson
    4. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and Wilson: A Consideration of the Sources by David Mamet. (Wilson would make a good primer for House of Leaves, though the two aren't particualrly alike except in structure...)
    5. Memos From Purgatory and Web of the City by Harlan Ellison (hard to track down, but worth reading back to back, in either order. Web is Ellison's first novel, about a guy in a gang in NYC. Memos is his autobiography about joining a gang in NYC to write his first novel about a guy in a gang in NYC...)

Actually, I have a copy of each Memos From Purgatory and Web of the City being as I'm a HUGE Ellison fan. I used to work down the street from a used book store and would snap up any book by him the day it showed up. My favorite would have to be Deathbird Stories however.

Thanks for the recommendations tho!

Ah. Just figured those two might have slipped under the radar, as they've been out of print since the mid 80's as far as I can tell. I agree, Deathbird Stories is great. I got that and Paingod and Other Delusions as my first 2 Ellison collections. Partners in Wonder and Shatterday are above Paingod in my list of faves though.
