here's a couple of things I've been aware of for a looooong time but since discovering web presence, I thought I should share... some of you out there may find it wonderful and maybe even helpful.

You've heard of Phillip Glass? Try these:

The Harmonic Page which is brought to you from David Hykes
Harmonics is music produced by melding notes together that create more notes not otherwise heard in the traditional octet of western music. The notes are whole and thus sound "right" but they are not produced (in his music) directly. There is an eerie quality to them that can be mind-blowingly beautiful.

The next, you have to know a bit first: Read the mini-bio first and grasp the idea behind "phasing". To say that Steve Reich was a pioneer is woeful understatement. If you haven't the patience for reading the bio, try listening to the Samples but you have to be patient for that as well... the beauty and innovation of the execution does not reveal itself immediately. Bear in mind, either way, that the pieces are not manipulated in any way beyond mere timed playback. Reich did not change the recordings or add to them, he only added the dimension of time in order to bring out effects inherent in the recording already. Effects that you could not possibly have heard otherwise. It is amazing when you hear it... I wish I could play the entirety of it for you... hell I wish I still OWNED the recordings in their entirety.

And for a laugh, check out "listen"
