how much information do you need to enjoy the scene?

A man and a seven year old boy lying on a bed; the boys is reading, the man is listening patiently, helping the boy sound out words he does not know.

A man gets up from his chair and grabs a young boy, who screams while being carried to a bed and thrown on it.

A man is standing still and smoothing out a woman's shirt-collar. She stands silently and looks into his face.

A woman is seated on a bench, looking at two people in love; she is smiling.

A girl is holding the leash to a dog as the dog walks slowly up a hill. She is laughing.

A man is waiting in traffic, turned to face his window. A boy sits next to him turned the other way.

A very young boy is walking around in a black robe. An even younger boy keeps calling him by a different name. Every time the toddler calls him by the wrong name, the young boy responds.

How much information do you need to enjoy the scene?

The young man is listening to the boy, who is not related to him, read. The boy has never opened up to another male before. His reading ability is astounding and (before this moment) undiscovered. They discuss the story, go over grammatical rules and are careful to read every word correctly. Sometimes, they sit close enough to be touching.

The older man has been sitting in his chair, feeling despondant because of medical problems and financial tangles. His grandson bursts into the room yelling something unintelligible. The grandfather grabs him and runs to another room; both of them yelling and laughing, he throws his grandson on the bed in triumph.

The very old man stands in the middle of a grocery store entrance, leaning against a shopping cart. His hands are spotted and shakey, but he calms them enough to help his wife smooth her shirt-collar. She is leaning against a walker, not moving a muscle, but her eyes never leave his face. Both of them are almost expressionless, yet the world obviously does not exist for either of them at this moment.

The older woman is sitting on a bench in the same grocery store, watching the couple that could be her parents. She sees their love and it is reflected in her smile.

A young girl is walking with her father, who comes to get her from school with his dog. He allows her to hold the leash because a young boy, not related to him, needs to have his hand held while crossing the street. The girl smiles at her father, the dog pulls her up the hill slowly and she laughs at the silly things the young boy is saying to her father.

A man is driving, seated facing towards his window. He looks concerned about something, with his hand splayed up over his face halfway and his brow slightly furrowed. His young son sits next to him with the exact same pose and expression, turned to face the other way. The traffic moves and they both move, in unison, to sit forward and pay attention to what's ahead of them.

The very young boy is dressed as Harry Potter. He is waiting for the parade to begin so he can march in it. The toddler keeps calling him "harry potter! come here!" and every time, he says with utter sincerity "yes? I'm coming."
