Geez

it's getting difficult to believe this is still America

still think this guy was a fake or nutcase?(read the January 2001 predictions at the bottom... it's not just that he predicted things, it's the way he presented it)

yep, a WACO-type event every other month or so, culminating in civil war against a governmental-enacted police state... then we move onto WW3.

Start packing your bags and be ready to leave before 2008.

That first one just makes me freaking crazy.

But where should we all GO in 2008? I'm going to need to know what to pack! If it's really a world war, is Switzerland a safe bet?

Yes. Yes I do.

I don't agree with the "debunking" you linked to. There are two main problems:

1) I've read the entire site and haven't seen some of quotes Mrdark mentions. This makes me suspect.

2) his understanding of the theory of time travel as espoused by Mr Titor is inaccurate. If you're going to debate something, you'd better fully understand what you are arguing against.

It didn't help that I followed his links and discovered that he's not only a raving conservative, he is an ardent religious conservative that seems to believe this country should be run accordint to the bible.

I don't really BELIEVE John Titor... but I don't buy this argument either. My point was that what Titor had to say was relevant whether or not you BELIEVE he was who he said he was.

Mr dark says this is his complete stance on the "gay marraige issue"

I read the whole thing and it just made me tired thinking about trying to talk sense to someone like that. Knowing me, though, I probably will attempt it on my own LJ sometime in the future *groan*

Thanks for the link. Much more interesting than my spanish homework.

Taken as fiction, it's good scifi which begs the discussion of right, true, and fiction. Specifically: I'd argue that it is fiction, it's truth is unlikely, but that it is right .. of course my politics and his are too well-aligned ;)

Still reading through ..

exactly.

i would have written your comment last night, but i was too damn tired.

to be honest, i think that the question of whether he actually comes from the future or not is moot, because what he writes isn't any more or less likely to be true than any other situation that imaginative writers can think up for us about our immediate future. I'd argue that it is fiction, it's truth is unlikely, but that it is right .. which makes the advise he gives for surviving "the crazy years" good advice for any way the situation falls out.

can i trust you with my life?

Bit heavu for first thing in the morning. Of course I made the mistake of reading that whole site and then going to bed. Not recommended.

I hope so. I also hope you have better to lean on. We should take this off of cass' LJ, no?

sure... but this seems to be the topic of ongoing conversation for us, anyway. :-)

Ah, this was the fellow you were mentioning.
Unsurprisingly, I am taking it rather seriously. I'll read up on it and tell you what I think privately when I get home.

Hoax.

it comes down to belief. The moderators all admit that each of them BELIEVE one way or another but none of them have proof either way. It's a matter of choice, but the issue (here) isn't really whether or not he was a hoax, it's whether you believe what he had to say is probable, possible or just crazy.

Was JT a TT? Dunno and don't care.

oh and maybe I'm blind but

[identity profile] not-hothead-yet.livejournal.com 2004-05-27 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see much correlation between the (specific) timeline of events presented on the site you linked and the the timeline of events given by JT. JT was much more vague (as most average ppl would be when talking about the history of events which lead up to their adolescence) and didn't mention names.

Frankly, my biggest skepticism comes from the fact that he didn't name anyone for anything. What? He couldn't even remember a "future" president's name? What would have been so hard about recounting that simple fact? Shoot, even telling people who would be governor of Florida would have been helpful to his case.... as for changing the future, what would have telling (not even) a hundred people have hurt?
